Dan Choi, one of the most high-profile US soldiers discharged under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, has apparently been called back to active duty.
Congratulations and keep up the good work!
Beware the sneaky gays!
Okay, Marshall on United States of Tara is hands down my favourite gay character on TV. Now he’s making out with a chick?? SO uncool.
I mean, I’m sure the writers will do their usual amazing thing and make the story work, but in the meantime, NOOOOOO Marshall, don’t give in!

Marshall from United States of Tara, who I ‘tumbld’ about yesterday, apparently now has a Tumblr! As I said before, Marshall is hands-down the best and most realistic gay character on TV, at least right now, if not of all time.
It’s the character who blogs, not Keir Gilchrist (the incredible teenage actor who plays him) and so far he’s just reviewed a bunch of artsy movies, very much in the ‘voice’ of Marshall, but who knows, maybe he’ll branch out at some point.
Anyways, anything to do with this fun and relevant show has my vote. Check it out!
Marshall had sex with a girl???
NOOOOOO.
GAH. The writers of this show are so freaking amazing it’s infuriating.
And then.
OMG
OMFG
Marshall: Dad
<Strained Silence>
Marshall: I’m gay.
Dad: Good.

Seriously, I’m not sure how they do it, but somehow this show gets better and better each week.
I have two things to address with regards to Kurt on Glee.
1) This is probably the most heartwarming scene from a TV show I can remember watching. Burt (Kurt’s dad) is incredible. How he acts, the things he says - if only all gay kids had a father like that. Not to mention that the actor (Mike O’Malley) is probably the most under-praised actor on the cast.
But seriously, I teared up watching that monologue. Brilliant. Kudos Ryan Murphy, you have serious skills.
2) I’ve seen lots of criticism around these interwebz about how Kurt embodies the “worst stereotypes” of gay people and how he doesn’t represent gay teens generally. The fact is, Kurt, like the rest of the show, isn’t meant to represent the “average” of anything. Glee is social commentary - satirizing the most extreme personalities and typologies. Sue Sylvester - the win-crazy coach who uses students as tools? Or how about Quinn - President of the celibacy club turned teenage mom?
Gay teens shouldn’t be looking to Kurt to see a mirror of themselves - if they really want that in a TV character, look to Marshall in United States of Tara. Kurt should be seen as a survival story and as the embodiment of the progress GLBT teens have made in the last decade.
How exactly is it possible that the United States of Tara keeps getting even more incredible every single episode? Is there not some sort of upper limit for how amazing a TV show can get? Like a ceiling of awesomeness of some sort? A big bang of brilliance?

On that same token, how is it not the most popular show on television? Seriously guys, the writing is amazing, the acting is flawless, the characters are deep, rich and well-developed. The plots are unpredictable but not frustrating, it explores issues that are cutting edge but not out of reach for the average person. Also, amazing soundtrack.
Seriously, if you’re not watching The United States of Tara, your life is not complete.
Also, Toni Collette is probably the most talented actress ever.
